My Digital Footprint

As part of the 23 Things course, I Googled myself – I have never done this before and wasn’t expecting much as I don’t have much of an online presence (my Facebook and Twitter accounts are private and largely unpopulated (I have never tweeted from my personal account, I just follow).  As suspected, my relatively … Continue reading My Digital Footprint

Thing 4

Thing 4 requires you to consider the data you share with the apps on your mobile and tablet devices. I was encouraged to download an app and then have a look through the list of permissions each of my apps have. Some want to know your exact GPS location, which is understandable for apps such […]

23 things – week 3

Hmm.. diversity and accessibility  has the implication that people want to be identified and found. I found myself realising that I didn’t want to have an online presence , as a bitmoji or anything else.. There are words I will put up there which are electronic messages , but I will definetly not be there. The emoji controversy was interesting – but only as it exemplifies the result of the confusion of identity and our messages ( which are electronic codes , which are then marketed back to us as somehow part of us). I decided to remain anonymous, and notice that I now have to thrash my way through a series of tumblr invocations to post this blog..

I admire the intent of the WAVE tool , but I couldn’t see any way to link to things I could do to improve my blogs accessibility, or indeed a help or welcome page.. all of which seems to defeat the point,..

Diversity

I have to admit I do like using emojis on a daily basis through texts/Facebook posts as it’s a fun way to express myself-friends and family know they will always have at least one emoji in my replies in conversation even if it just the occasional smiley face. However after reading the two articles on … Continue reading Diversity

Breaking into blogging with Thing 2

The ’23 things’ course title makes me think of Thing One and Thing Two from Dr. Suess’ stories. While searching for images to accompany this post, I remembered that my child had a lot of fun making buttons at camp this summer. (Thing 1 button was made and given to a friend.) Thanks, Alex, for […]

things to read carefully

Since we are thinking about Twitter and we have learned about privacy, and we have read our social media guidelines and we are going to learn about copyright and OER;  I thought it was worth having a good look at the Twitter Terms of Service. https://twitter.com/tos I note in the first point: ‘ If you …

Diving into Thing 1

For some reason, a ladder metaphor popped into my mind as a good way to kick off the 23 Things exploration. Thing #1 featured a short video intro (view it below), the course FAQs, and a call to familiarize ourselves with our respective institutions’ social media policies. I wandered over to the University of Minnesota’s home […]

23 Things: Thing 6 Accessibility

Thing 6 is all about web accessibility and it’s a thing I have had a very on and off relationship with over the years. Despite the fact that I am fully signed up to the belief that accessible design is good design for all, I think I probably pay less attention to accessibility online than I […]
