It’s amazing how much things change in computer land in a few years! Google+ doesn’t look anything like how it is shown in the course:). We are using Microsoft Teams as the moment as a result of COVID-19 so I am going to stick with it.

23 Things: Thing 14 – Audio
I am pretty familiar with podcasts and SoundCloud. I go through phases of listening to ALL THE PODCASTS, or listening to none, there is no middle ground. I’m currently in a no podcast phase (I’ve been listening to audiobooks from the library though!). As for SoundCloud, Steel City Stories uses it to post some of … Continue reading 23 Things: Thing 14 – Audio →
23 Things: Thing 13 – Video
I have used Youtube for a long time, and there are several creators that I will even sit through ads for. What I didn’t know, since I’ve never uploaded anything is that there are different types of licences… or that Vimeo offers even more types of licences than Youtube. This kind of surprised me given … Continue reading 23 Things: Thing 13 – Video →
23 Things: Thing 12 – Open Educational Resources
I’d never heard of Open Educational Resources before, but I imagine that they are needed more than ever right now. I’m quite interested in the Radical Digital Literacy ORE from the University of Edinburgh. It may be one that I revisit at a…
23 Things: Thing 11 – Copyright
I now feel like I have a better understanding of Creative Commons copyright types (as well as a whole new resource for images for future projects and presentations). I try to be pretty aware of what I can reuse but it is nice to have a space where the rules for reuse are spelled out. … Continue reading 23 Things: Thing 11 – Copyright →
Thing 9 – Google Hangouts
I’ve not used Hangouts before but it’s very similar to WhatsApp, which I use regularly to talk to overseas family. What a fun app. I love the cute little ponies and the shy dinosaur – just wish I could send them in a message! My daughter and I had fun chatting between two rooms in …
Thing 8 – Facebook
It’s been a while since my last post. I’m ashamed. Hopefully I’ll be able to stay on track and finish off my 23 Things! I’ve been using Facebook on-and-off-again for a long time and have joined formal FB groups, such as our local ‘Buy, Swap and Sell’ and ‘Dog Walkers’ groups. I never considered using …
23 Things: Thing 10 – Wikipedia
I just completed the Wikipedia Adventure. I feel like I know so much more about how to edit Wikipedia, something I knew about in theory but had never done before. I have often used Wikipedia as a jumping off point in my research but have never done any editing to it. I also liked that … Continue reading 23 Things: Thing 10 – Wikipedia →
23 Things: Thing 9 – Google Hangouts
I’ve used Google Hangouts a bit, most recently a couple weeks ago for a Book Club when we decided it would be better to not meet in person. I like that Google Hangouts easily allows you to focus on one person and you also can see everyone’s video feed on the same screen (something that … Continue reading 23 Things: Thing 9 – Google Hangouts →
Thing 9 & 10 – Google Hangouts, Collaborate Ultra, and Wikimedia
Online Meeting Tools Tools such as Google Hangouts, Collaborate Ultra, and Zoom have seen increased usage during the COVID-19 pandemic as people are practicing social distancing. Some universities have moved all classes online for the time being and professors are using these tools in order to connect with students from their homes. I’ve been using … Continue reading Thing 9 & 10 – Google Hangouts, Collaborate Ultra, and Wikimedia
23 Things: Thing 8 – Facebook
I have used Facebook for a long time and have both been a part of groups and been an admin on a few. The point that the Lifehacker article made about ensure that everyone in the group sees a post is interesting especially since the “Most recent” sort option can be a pain. I’m not … Continue reading 23 Things: Thing 8 – Facebook →
23 Things: Thing 7 – Twitter
I have used Twitter previously and am in charge of the Twitter account for one of the groups that I volunteer for. It works well for that group to help us reach folks in our community to advertise our events. The analytics on Twitter are also helpful as we can see just how many people … Continue reading 23 Things: Thing 7 – Twitter →
