Blogging about blogging. It feels like looking in a mirror pointing at a mirror, and both are things that make me feel very contrary. I don’t really want to gaze upon myself in all my approaching-50-ness, yet I look in every mirror I see. Likewise, while I am typing I find that I am secretly hoping… Continue reading Thing 2, Blogging![]()

Thing 3, My Digital Footprint.
Googling myself was both exciting and frightening and I was chuffed to find that the real me was my first hit. I was particularly happy to find that all of the website and image hits that were actually me were connected to my academic pursuits, and that all the other Heather McQueens seemed to be pretty well behaved.… Continue reading Thing 3, My Digital Footprint.![]()
Things!
Yet another attempt at revivifying this blog on roughly its fourth birthday! But this time, with a slightly different format, namely the 23 Things project at the university. Having started slightly late is made up by the fact that I already read about the initiative and have this blog, so Thing 1 and 2 […]![]()
On the Presentation of 23 Things
When I was asked to put together a 23 Things programme for The University of Edinburgh I couldn’t have been more pleased. You see I’m a joiner, a participant, a signer-up of ‘things’, and particularly online learning.

what I hope to gain out of the 23 Things programme
The first block looks very interesting. I hope to learn more about social media and a better understanding of the other various topics.
Thing 2
So one of the questions posed in this challenge is: “was I aware of the University’s Social Media Guidelines for Staff and Researchers“? Not directly, although I guessed that there probably were some guidelines out there somewhere. Having read through the document, I thought it was well presented, reasonably concise, and a good layout for scanning. I’m … Continue reading “Thing 2”![]()
Wipe your feet at the door
I’m continuing to do my 23 Things, and thing 3 is digital footprints. Whilst I’m pretty open about my life and the things that interest me I do try to put a little separation online between professional life and personal life. It’s not a hard line, but I do make sure my Linked In page…
