23 things – week 3

Hmm.. diversity and accessibility  has the implication that people want to be identified and found. I found myself realising that I didn’t want to have an online presence , as a bitmoji or anything else.. There are words I will put up there which are electronic messages , but I will definetly not be there. The emoji controversy was interesting – but only as it exemplifies the result of the confusion of identity and our messages ( which are electronic codes , which are then marketed back to us as somehow part of us). I decided to remain anonymous, and notice that I now have to thrash my way through a series of tumblr invocations to post this blog..

I admire the intent of the WAVE tool , but I couldn’t see any way to link to things I could do to improve my blogs accessibility, or indeed a help or welcome page.. all of which seems to defeat the point,..

23 things – week 3

digital footprints

Like john Muir says ‘ take only memories, eave only footprints’, but of course he believed the footprints would be washed away by the wind and the rain.. I havent left man y footprints- but i think this is a coincidence , of my age, politics and profession .. and ironically the learning process of entering into the digital era will require me to leave many more. Already twitter and tumblr now have  a profile for me and are harvesting the (little) data I give them. My hopes are that the greater amounts of data collected about everyone else wil continue to protect me from casual disclosure. the two online articles my friend was able to source i had written two years ago have now been buried n google under a raft of pseudonymous shit and pictures of Ewan McGregor. It might be a better world if we all lived under alias es – a world of partial , assumed identitites and easy asignation. But I am aware that for most of the aspirant users of 23 things that this is nt the case, and the caveats about hw their online identities can follow them are probably real , which is profoundly saddening. I am suresome of them  will find ways of resisting – better ones than opting out..
